SUBJECT：Technical Circular No.201605-Atmosphere Testing Instrument for Enclosed Spaces Will Come into Effect

On the 94th  Maritime Safety Committee held during November 17 and November 21, 2014, IMO passes No. MSC.380(94) Resolution and approved MSC.1/Circ.1485, wherein the new regulation 7 "Atmosphere Testing Instrument for Enclosed Spaces" was added:

Every ship to which chapter I applies shall carry an appropriate portable atmosphere testing instrument or instruments*. As a minimum, these shall be capable of measuring concentrations of oxygen, flammable gases or vapours, hydrogen sulphide and carbon monoxide prior to entry into enclosed spaces**. Instruments carried under other requirements may satisfy this regulation. Suitable means shall be provided for the calibration of all such instruments.

IMO originally required all applicable ships to satisy the regulation at their first periodical surveys after July 1st, 2016. But now the MSC.1/Circ.1485 encourages ships to implemente the above No. MSC.380(94) Resolution in advance. Therefore, please make necessary preparation according to the IMO requirements.
